I read a lot of articles about manufacturing.  I suppose I should get out more, but I find the subject very interesting.  I came across three interesting articles earlier this year written by members of the Brookings Institute.  I would recommend them all to you; they take all of about five minutes to read.

Howard Wial is the author or co-author of all the pieces.  Wial is a fellow in the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program. He writes alot on manufacturing and blogs on it at the New Republic.  I spoke with him on the phone and he is very nice, insightful guy.  And he, unlike me, gets to visit factories with the President.

Why does that seem unfair to me?

  1. I like to repeat this point. The world is undergoing a giant economic boom right now in electronics: iPads, Androids, digital readers and the USA is totally missing out because we have shipped out all of our manufacturing. How is the economy going to come back if we do not make anything? -Jack A
