Ok, I guess he is kinda cute.

We got a new puppy last week.

Titus is a nine week old White Lab puppy.

I had forgotten two things about puppies.  They sleep a lot and their teeth are very sharp.

Puppies need lots of accessories, so I went down to our local Mud Bay store to get Titus outfitted with American made puppy gear.

If your house lacks a cave, you need a crate for your puppy.  The theory is that since dogs evolved from wolves, and wolves live in caves, dogs like living in caves as well.  Since we don’t live in caves, we need to create a mini-cave for our pooches.  Hence the need for a crate for your dog to live in .  We got Titus a crate made by Petmate.

Titus is still a little young for walks, but within the next few weeks we will be strolling around the block attached only by Titus’ Krebs Recycled Climbing Rope Leash.  Krebs makes their leashes here in Seattle using durable recycled nylon climbing rope and recycled Cordura cloth from Tom Bihn, a fella I have written about before.  All Krebs leashes utilize industrial-strength stitching and come with a swivel snap for easy connection to leash.  Krebs leashes come in 1, 2, 4 and 6 foot lengths and come in seven colors.  They look really cool and durable.

Lupine Pets makes very nice collars at their plant in Conway, New Hampshire.  They make an amazing array of adjustable collars and invisible fence collars.

Spindrift is another great dog collar maker.  Their safety collar is constructed with one inch webbing and is trimmed on both sides with bright 3M reflective piping. The whole collar is lined with neoprene to provide your pooch with extra comfort.

Chew Toys

Titus has teeth that would do a barracuda proud, so having plenty of chew toys on hand is absolutely essential.  West Paw makes lots of great dog chew toys in Bozeman, Montana, as well as dog beds and dog blankets.

Another venerable American dog chew toy company is Kong.  Lots of Kong toys are hollow so you can stuff treats in the toy to subtly drive your dog crazy.

Flying Toys

Titus is a little young and uncoordinated to actually catch things, but once he is a bit older, I have my eye on two flying toys that are both made by members of our extended American family.  The first one is the Hyperflight Jawz Déjà Flew Pup Disc.  The disc is made from pre and post-consumer recycled Jawz disc material.

Another great flying toy for your doggo is the Go-Frr fetch ball.  The Go-Frr is a sort of slingshot device that allows you to launch the fetch ball quite a ways without throwing out your arm.

So, Titus’ needs can be taken care of with nothing but products made by members of our extended American family.  If you know of other American made pooch products, please let me know.  Also, I would love comments with pictures of your dogs.  All the best.

What a great photo! This pup is adorable! I am a big dog lover and have two dogs of my own, Zeus and Lucky. They are so funny, loving, and snuggly! I love them with all of my heart and soul! My name is Melissa Crowley and I am on a mission to save my favorite dog! I have started a blog and a fundraising page for my Rottweiler Zeus called Saving Zeus. He has a rare genetic disorder and we are trying to raise funds for the medical tests and treatment that he desperately needs. When Zeus was diagnosed with this rare genetic disorder, I started feeling helpless and guilty because I didn’t have the financial means to provide the care he needed. I decided after a few days that I couldn’t just sit back and wait for him to worsen; I had to do whatever I could do to raise the funds for the medical care he desperately needs. So far, we have raised $1,805 and are inching slowly toward our goal of $5,000. My blog includes funny stories, really cute photos of both of my boys, all of the details about Zeus’ condition, updates on how he is doing, and a link to our donation site. If you would like to make a donation or share our blog and other links to help us save Zeus, or would just like a laugh after reading a funny story, visit my page. Since I am just getting started on my blog, there will be many more stories to come so check back every once in a while! Thank you for visiting and showing your support!
